At Home for the Homeless, we believe every life matters and every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.
We are saddened to share the passing of Bonnie McDowell, a member of our Kansas City community who experienced homelessness.
The reality of homelessness is that not every story has a happy ending. Many individuals face incredibly difficult circumstances, and despite the efforts of organizations and community members, we cannot always change the outcome.
But we can still make a difference.
Being There When It Matters Most
When Bonnie passed away, there was no one available to help cover her burial expenses. Home for the Homeless stepped forward to ensure she could be laid to rest with the dignity and respect she deserved.
Bonnie's story reflects a larger truth about homelessness. We may not always be able to solve every problem or change every circumstance, but we can be there for people in whatever capacity we're able.
Sometimes that means helping someone find housing or connecting them with essential resources. Other times, it means simply ensuring someone is not forgotten.
We couldn't change Bonnie's circumstances, but we could honor her life.
May Bonnie McDowell rest in peace.
