Helping Residents Stay Comfortable Through Every Season

For families and individuals living on very limited incomes, extreme temperatures can make an already difficult situation even harder. Something as simple as a fan or a warm blanket can make a meaningful difference when other options aren’t available.

Home for the Homeless learned about residents living in an apartment building without air conditioning. During the summer months, the heat inside their apartments could become uncomfortable, and purchasing additional cooling equipment wasn’t always financially possible.

Responding to an Immediate Need

Home for the Homeless provided fans to help residents stay cooler and more comfortable during the summer heat.

The need didn’t end when the weather changed. During the winter, the building can also remain cool, and residents are not permitted to use space heaters in their apartments. Home for the Homeless responded again by providing blankets to help residents stay warm during the colder months.

Meeting People Where They Are

Not every need requires a complicated solution. Sometimes making a difference means listening to what someone is experiencing and providing something practical that can improve daily life.

For residents already stretching limited incomes to cover housing, food and other necessities, purchasing seasonal items can be difficult. Providing fans and blankets helped meet an immediate need without creating another expense for households already working hard to get by.

Whether it’s relief from the summer heat or warmth during a cold winter, small acts of support can help make home a safer, more comfortable place.
